English courses in Singapore for adults
Our classrooms are at International Plaza on Anson Road, two minutes from Tanjong Pagar MRT. Students come to us from more than twenty countries. Some have just arrived in Singapore and want to stop feeling lost in everyday conversations. Some have worked here for years and still dread speaking up in meetings. Most sit somewhere between the two.
We run nine English courses across six levels, from complete beginner upward. Some run in the morning, some in the evening, some five days a week, and some are one to one at whatever hour suits you. The differences between them matter more than the names suggest, which is why this page compares them side by side rather than asking you to open nine tabs.
If you are not sure where you fit, take the free placement test. It takes about thirty minutes, there is no obligation, and you will leave knowing your level and which course suits you. We will tell you honestly, including when the honest answer is a shorter or cheaper course than the one you asked about.

Which course should you take?
Most people arrive knowing roughly what they want and not knowing what it is called. These are the six situations we see most often.
You have just moved to Singapore and your days are free
Take Intensive English. It runs five days a week, mornings and early afternoons, which is the fastest way to make real progress. General English runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for three hours, and conversation practice runs on Tuesday and Thursday for two. The two halves reinforce each other: you learn something on Monday and use it out loud on Tuesday.
It starts every Monday, so you are never waiting weeks to begin. You can take a single week to see how it feels before committing to more, which is worth doing if you are unsure about the pace.
You work full time and evenings are all you have
Take Practical General English or Business English. Both are built around twelve weeks, which is long enough to see genuine change without asking you to rearrange your life around it.
Choose Practical General English if the problem is broad, meaning you want to be more comfortable in English generally, across speaking, listening, reading and writing. Choose Business English if the problem is specifically work: writing emails that sound right, following a fast meeting, presenting without reading from a script, handling a phone call you did not expect. Business English uses Business Result by Oxford University Press, so the material is built for the workplace rather than adapted for it.
You understand English but freeze when you have to speak
Take Conversational English. This is the single most common reason adults come to us, and it is worth saying plainly that it is not a vocabulary problem. You already have the words. What you do not have is the confidence to reach for them at normal speaking speed, in front of other people, without rehearsing first.
The class is small and almost all of it is talking. There is grammar in it, but the grammar arrives because you needed it in a conversation two minutes earlier, not because it was next on a list.
You need the lesson built entirely around you
Take One to One English. Private lessons start at ninety minutes and are scheduled when you are free, including before nine in the morning and on Saturdays. Everything is aimed at whatever you actually need, whether that is a specific presentation, an interview, an industry vocabulary, or a habit you want to break.
It costs more per hour than a group class and it moves faster, so people often take fewer hours than they expect to.
You cannot get to Anson Road
Take Online English. These are live lessons with a teacher, not recorded videos, and they run one to one or in a small group. If travelling across Singapore after work is the thing that would make you cancel, this removes it. Everything else about the teaching is the same.
You are preparing for a test
Take the IELTS preparation course or the TOEIC preparation course. Both are about test technique as much as English: how the questions are built, where marks are lost, how to manage the clock. General English courses will improve your English but they will not teach you the exam, and the exam has its own rules.
What level are you, and how we work that out
We teach at six levels, from complete beginner to advanced. Being placed correctly matters more than most people expect. A class that is slightly too advanced feels like drowning and people stop speaking, which is the one thing that has to keep happening for a course to work. A class that is too easy feels comfortable and nothing changes.
The placement test is free and takes about thirty minutes. It covers reading, writing and a short spoken conversation with a teacher, because the three often sit at different levels in the same person. It is common to read well above the level you speak at, particularly if you learned English mostly at school.
You do not need to prepare for it and there is nothing to pass. At the end we tell you which level you are at and which course fits, and you decide what to do with that.
How our classes work
- Six levels, from complete beginner to advanced, with placement by test rather than guesswork.
- Small classes. You speak in every lesson, which is the entire point of being in a room instead of using an app.
- Teachers hold CELTA, TESOL or an equivalent internationally recognised qualification.
- Courses start weekly. Intensive English starts every Monday.
- Students come from more than twenty countries, so the English spoken in the room is the English you will meet at work.
- Payment by PayNow, bank transfer, credit card or cash, with an invoice or payment link sent once you enrol.
Your first visit
We are on the twentieth floor of International Plaza, 10 Anson Road, at unit 20-07. Tanjong Pagar MRT is a two minute walk and the building entrance is on Anson Road itself.
Come for the placement test with nothing in particular. No documents, no preparation, no fee. Allow about forty five minutes so there is time to look at the classrooms and ask whatever you want to ask about schedules, fees or teachers before you decide anything.
Common questions
Do I need any English at all to start?
No. Our lowest level assumes nothing, and beginners are a normal part of what we do. If you are starting from nothing, a course that runs more often will get you moving faster than one that meets once a week.
How long before I notice a difference?
It depends on how often you are in class and how much you use English outside it. Students on the intensive course, in the classroom five days a week, tend to notice something within the first few weeks. Once a week for twelve weeks is a slower shape but a more sustainable one if you are working full time. We will not promise you a timeline, because anyone who does is guessing.
Can I change course after I start?
Talk to us. Being in the wrong class is a solvable problem and it is much better solved in week two than in week ten. It happens often enough that nobody will be surprised.
What does it cost?
Group courses start at S$590 and private lessons start at S$1,090 for ten hours. The comparison table above shows the entry price for every course, and the full fee tables including longer packages are on each course page and on our fees and schedule page.
Do you teach anything other than English?
Yes. We run Mandarin courses at the same levels and in the same formats, including conversational Mandarin, corporate Mandarin, HSK exam preparation and classes for children, along with conversational French.
